Since 1991, the Shield of Athena has been at the service of thousands of victims of violence in Quebec and beyond, offering shelter and services to vulnerable women and children. The Shield of Athena is a leading advocate in the community, an expert voice in the media and a partner to both provincial and federal governments.

2025 will mark a milestone in the organization’s development with the inauguration of the Second Step Resource in Laval. This will be the Shield of Athena’s fourth point of service, in addition to the emergency shelter, Athena’s House, and the Montreal and Laval offices. Its purpose is to assist single women and moms with their children, victims of conjugal violence, in their transition to autonomy and a life free of violence.

Contact us today to find out how your organization can sponsor our continued efforts to help victims and bring an end to violence.

Stories from our social workers

Our dedicated team shares their experiences of helping survivors rebuild their lives.

When she first came to our shelter through Youth Protection with two young children, she was isolated without friends, family or knowledge of using public transportation, bank services or shopping for groceries.

After she got her first apartment, she became confident and eventually opened her own catering business. Today, after getting her social housing, she’s fully autonomous.

— Maria, Cultural Intermediary

The 11-year-old daughter alerted the police for her Mom and her younger sibling; all three were victims of an extreme case of family violence.

The police then referred them to our shelter. With our support, she is now able to take care of her family in a safer environment.
